US immigration officials have raided seven meat processing plants in the southern state of Mississippi, arresting 680 mostly Latino workers in the largest workplace sting in at least a decade.
Nearly half of them have been freed on humanitarian grounds to care for their children.
The raids on Wednesday happened just hours before President Donald Trump visited El Paso, Texas, the majority-Latino border city where a man linked to an online screed about a "Hispanic invasion" was charged in a shooting that left 22 people dead.

The United States has raised its travel warning for Hong Kong, as protesters there plan yet another weekend of demonstrations.
A senior Chinese official overseeing Hong Kong affairs has warned the city is facing its biggest crisis since its handover back to Chinese rule, 22 years ago.
Hundreds of protesters have been arrested in increasingly violent clashes with some now facing prosecution for the serious offence of rioting, that many lawyers believe is politically motivated.
